History

In 1966, Tom Vance founded Virginia Melody and Sound in Roanoke, Virginia, with one part-time employee and a mission to install music and sound systems throughout the state. During the past four decades what has now become BCS, has emerged as an industry leader in voice, data, and communications infrastructure offering leading-edge technology and superior customer service.

In 1969, Virginia Melody and Sound began offering Nurse Call systems through Dukane Healthcare Systems/GE. In 1971, the company installed the first privately owned telephone system on the public bell network in Lynchburg. In 1981, Virginia Melody and Sound became Business Communications Systems (BCS).

BCS continues to seek cutting-edge telecommunications equipment and data networks to give our customers the most productive and profitable methods to communicate among their staff and with their customers.

“At BCS, we strive every day to earn our customers’ business,” said Mark Vance, company president. “We pride ourselves in our products, installation and service. The first sale to any given company or customer is not complete until they have bought the second system from us, and then the entire process begins again. Our motto remains true: Communications... It’s our calling.”
